Nice slice of nostalgia here. It doesn't seem that long ago that I did
"Death's Gateway" #34). What I liked best about doing that adventure
(as ridiculous as it may sound) was the zillion debugging sessions
needed to get it to run correctly. At the time, I thought I'd do a
second, much better adventure.
Then I blinked and that century was gone...

I loved Eamon as a kid. I never really liked to read until I got hooked on Eamon. I only had two adventures plus the beginner's cave, but I would spend hours in the library at school.

Eamon was one of the greatest influences on my becoming a PhD in medieval literature. I look forward to using the walk-throughs on the web site.

I remember eamon, and swordthrust cause my older brothers and dad all played them. I played alot of the text games around at that time, but I also favored these the most. I was curious any plans to recreate, or pay homage to them by creating a neverwinter night module? I think it would be very interesting to see them done in 3d. Not sure how well the DnD ruleset would work though?

I loved eamon as a child. I thought it was messed up how grown ups
spelled diamond. Then I blinked, and thought it was messed up how much
grownups expected me to pay for a diamond engagement ring. So now I'm
just sharing that.
I used to play very long times at my neighbors when I was much younger
on just the beginners hall (the only apple 2 dungeon I ever got to load,
but then again I wasn't terribly great with computers back then)
Anyone ever thought about an eamon mud?
that would solve porting problems and allow new content to get out
faster with online creation and what not.

Hmm, if fans of the singer Eamon keep mailing you... write back with
something to the effect of "Throw away my CD and forget about me. I
don't want an illiterate [insert your favorite curse word here] as a
fan anyway!"
I'd do it. But then again, I'm evil.

The first game I remember playing was Eamon on my dad's Apple II/e, and when I literally found out earlier today I could still get ahold of it I was tickled. We only had the beginner's cave, the Castle of Doom and one other one that I don't remember because I didn't play it very much. But I do remember having a blast playing the game.

I used to play Eamon in the early 80s. My friend and I would play and
replay the 5 or so quests he had. Years later I am playing console games
like Fable and Morrowind. I was taking a trip down memory lane the other
day and my glory days with Eamon were brought up. I am new to the world
of computer gaming. Although I played computer games years ago I just
got my first computer a little while ago. I Emailed Matthew recently to
help me figure out how to make my PC play the old games-- he quickly
sent me back information that a clueless newbie could use to get
rolling. I really appreciate his help and want to thank him for his time
and his help.

I discovered Eamon in as a freshman in high school (1984) when some friends and I discovered the master disk in our geometry and computer lab teacher's disk binder. We quickly rooted out more Eamon followers through the University of Iowa library and Iowa City Public Library. For us it was almost a cult. Since high school, I've all but forgotten about Eamon. I'm not sure what prompted me to do a search on Google, but here I am! At 34 years old and a U.S. Marine of almost 11 years, I've rediscovered one of my favorite pastimes and can play it on my PC!

This is the best thing on the internet. Thank you for keeping this alive. When I was a kid I bought an Apple II e from a garage sale and never could get over the fact that there were only seven games for Eamon with it. Years later, after I had discovered the 200+ game stash on the internet, I was addicted all over again. Eamon (and beer) got me through some rough typhoons on Okinawa in the Marine Corps, to which the Marine who signed ahead of me can surely attest. Semper Fi and thank you again.

Wow. I haven't played with Eamon in 20 years. Hard to believe it's
still alive and kicking.
I may just have to try downloading all this stuff to see if I can get it
to work again.

Can't tell you how THRILLED I am to find Eamon is still alive and well on the web! I first started playing Eamon on my mom's Apple IIe in the mid-80's - I was probably only 7 or 8. Years later we got a PC, but I lugged the Apple into my bedroom and stayed up late many a night hack-n-slashing. Eamon was just the thing for me, a geeky kid who loved fantasy and reading. Some of my favorites were: Attack of the Kretons; Castle Kophinos; Orb of My Life; Monty Python & the Holy Grail. My friends were always glued to their Nintendos, but I could never get into the graphics-heavy games - just not enough room for imagination. Eamon was one of the things that made me sorry to see our old Apple II go. Now I have it again! Thanks!

Eamon was one of the first Apple II text adventures I ever played. I still remember playing the Beginners Cave over and over as a kid long before realizing there were other adventures available for the system. But thanks to the Big Red Apple Club, I eventually was able to order all the Eamon adventures my heart desired as well as the dungeon designer tools. Very cool indeed! I must say this is the most comprehensive, open and long-lived adventure system I have ever seen. Very awesome and of course - fun! Glad to see that there are still new adventures being made, even after all these years! Here's to another 25 years of Eamon!

Wow, I never owned an Apple II, I had a C64 back then. But I did spend many hours playing Eamon games on a friend's computer. If there was one thing about the Apple II that was above and beyond anything alse it was these games and their following. I'm actually going to give some of them a try again :)

I started using EAMON games as soon as I found out about them. My first encounter included the first 5 games. It wasn't long until more games became available. I used to drive to Cheyenne, Wyo. from my home in Fort Collins, CO because there was person there that was duplicating EAMON games and selling them for about $3.00 each. I increased the size of my library considerably. I have just obtained an Apple //GS in mint condition and want to play the games again. I have a Packard Bell w/Windows 98, 2 Macs (old, 1985 and 1995) with emulators.

Eamon was one of the first computer games I ever played. We had a Radio Shack TRS-80 at home, so I only got to play it while visiting my friend who had an Apple ii plus. I was so excited by it that I was determined to create it in BASIC on my TRS-80. I was in the 3rd or 4th grade. Ah, how i remember how the teachers used to convince me to choose fiction books like the other kids; programming books were my preference. Having found this site, I look forward to trying one of the emulators... Thanks guys!

Neat site. I have alot of memories playing Eamon and also the commercially sold Sword Thrust. Don Brown has been a friend for many years. I still work will him. Though he still has no interest in reliving the past. Not me. I like reliving the past.

Hi . . . I played some of the very first Eamons when I was in my mid teens -- I don't remember how Paul and I got them, but I'm thinking that Donald Brown was a local. Anyway, it was a real kick to Google myself and find that an Eamon adventure I wrote more than 20 years ago has actually been played (and even enjoyed.)

I played EAMON a lot as a kid and de-bugged and suped-up a bunch of the adventures (adding music and occasional graphics and so forth, editing room descriptions, etc...) I had a BLAST with it in high school. I bought the CD with all the EAMON files but can't get the emulators to work very well. ANYWAY... I would like to convert Eamon into a usable campaign world for pencil & paper role-playing games (specifically Dungeons & Dragons 3.5). Does anyone know where I can obtain a listing of the date in any or all of the adventures (room descriptions, monster & items stats, etc...)?

Hi Folks! What a blast from the past! I loved text-based adventure games every since getting totally hooked on "Apple Adventure" (for II+) back in junior high. I'm half-embarrassed that my three awful Eamon attempts are still out there in the ether. ;) Thanks for the great web site, and keep up the good work! --Mike

Wow. Like many of the guests, I was just sitting here wondering, "What ever became of Eamon?". Thanks to Googleawesomeness, that picture of the rearing dragon popped up on my screen. Wow, again. Many years have passed since I delved into the world of Eamon, and I must give the game some credit for how it sparked my interest in many things I still love today. I used to 'hate' reading, but Eamon helped me develop a taste for fantasy fiction. Now I'm glad to enjoy great works from authors like Robert Jordan. I am still an avid gamer today at age 34, and still love text games. Text muds like 'lensmoor' give me that Eamon-fix I thirst for on occassion. I'm glad to see a few people still keeping things alive. Thanks!

Eamon – what a blast from the past! Writing The Senator’s Chambers & The Temple of Ngurct (#22 & #23) was my first experience with computer programming (as is evidenced by their low-quality coding). It was hard work, but satisfying enough that I decided to go into the field. I had the pleasure of meeting Don Brown in the mid-1990’s, and thanking him for introducing me to computer programming – and to "open source software development," before that phrase even existed.

Wow. I was just reminiscing with an old friend on how much we loved Eamon as kids ... our favourite remains the dead soggy killer bunny (no idea which Eamon adventure that was in now - maybe someone can remind us?). Thought I'd look up Google and see what's out there and found the wiki and then this site. Good to see!
Might have to check out a Windows xp compatable version now .….
